Pause, for now

September 12, 2020 8 By Yve Harrold

I have been posting in my blog every Saturday for six months. Like so much about these past few years, it is hard to believe. At the beginning of the year I felt the inspiration to put my yearning to write into this format. I was talking to a friend, about what, specifically, I don’t know. It was something related to the journey I was on, and he said, “suddenly you look over and your Heart is Riding Shotgun.” The visual and feeling that was created by that phrase stayed with me. I knew that was it, and I started building my site at the end of February.

I have received several questions about my process for writing – Do you have a plan for what you will write each week? Do you write one post at a time? When do you write? And my friend Chuck asked, are you afraid that your blog will feel like work?

Here are the short answers.

My plan consists of a list of thoughts or experiences that I think I might want to write about. Most of this comes from the journal I have kept for the past sixteen months. I look at it regularly, and my heart and mind pretty much tell me when it’s time to start working on something. It is also not uncommon to begin with a fresh thought that would come to me usually when walking or hiking. I will make notes on my phone and start writing as soon as I get back to my journal or computer.

I like to have three posts at a time in progress and have managed this discipline with only the rare exception.

Tuesday and Thursday, from coffee to lunchtime, are always reserved for writing. I feel focused and disciplined at those times but also relaxed and open enough for creative and heart-felt thought.

And Chuck, I am so happy to say that this blog has never felt like work.

However, I also know that it is time for a pause, for now.

For my weekly readers, I will be back to you soon. If you are the person who has read infrequently, the archives are easy to find, and I hope you will catch up. There is some good stuff here. And honestly, one thing that I do know about what I have written is that it is timeless. On any given day, it may hold very little meaning for you and at some other point in time, you may feel the weight. Because we are all on a journey.

If you have never shared this blog with others, you can do it by simply copying the link from the home page, www.mysoulride.com, or any specific post. Also at the bottom of each post, you can click on the icon for sharing through Facebook or Twitter. The Print icon is there too. Maybe there is a post you need to slide into a good old-fashioned card to a friend. Pass it along.

I will continue to write. Just not post. I need a few months to focus on the work that pays the bills. This is simply a pause, for now.

Love to all of you for your outward or unseen support. Okagesama. And if you don’t know what that means, it’s time for you to read the archives.
