Grief is not a bad thing

Grief is not a bad thing

My blog has been live since March 2020. I’ve published 78 entries and have had 5,370 visitors and 10,705 views. When I started, I didn’t have a hard list of goals. It was mainly this – write because it feels like something that will help me to heal; share because it feels like something that could help others; publish because I have something to say that others may not know how to say.

So there you have it. And how lucky to live in a time and place with the freedom and the technology to just say what I think needs to be said and to have a simple medium for sharing it.

There is so much more to do. More that I can do. So I keep trying. In January this year, after becoming a Certified Grief Educator, I began supporting people in other ways through workshops, individual grief support, grief hikes, and via my Instagram posts @grieveinsideout.

I am part of the conversation that normalizes grief. When we don’t talk about it, it remains a secret that builds walls. When we share we are able to connect to each other and contribute to others’ healing as well as our own.

Although, I have definitely observed, as a whole, we prefer to avoid even thinking about grief if we don’t have to. I get it. Why put your energy into something that seems so sad and painful if it isn’t your time for it. But I know there is so much more to it all than that. And if we each understood grief better, now, we have a chance to be a better friend and supporter.

Grief is not a bad thing. It’s a response to a bad thing.

My own experience with grief will define me for the rest of my life. But I’m no different than anyone else. Some days are simple and mundane. Some days I’m just that person shopping for new patio furniture. But my one suggestion, always, if you are smack in the middle of grief, go outside. That’s where I will be. Nature heals. Just stand by a tree, take a walk, sit by a creek.

Right now, it’s time for a short break in my publishing, to set aside the deadlines that, only, I place on myself.  I don’t get paid for this. :o)

To my regular readers, I will be back soon. If you are the person who has read infrequently or even just found me today, the archives are easy access, and I hope you will catch up. I humbly admit there is some really good stuff there to read. My writing is timeless if nothing else. I am truly inspired to write because I want my story to matter to someone – to anyone who needs it on that day, at that moment. We each have our journey.

If you have not yet shared my blog with others, you can do it by simply copying the link from the home page, www.mysoulride.com, or any specific post. Also, at the bottom of each post, you can click on the icon for sharing through Facebook. The Print icon is there too. Maybe there is something you need to slide into a good old-fashioned card to a friend. Pass it along. I welcome it, encourage it, and appreciate it.

I will continue to write and will begin publishing again before the end of the year. In the meantime, here are links to some of my favorites. Love to all of you for your outward or unseen support.
